The discovery of a new country often awakens in us the desire to take with us some items and gifts for ourselves and our loved ones. A popular choice is a pair of slippers. There are plenty of different models, both for men, women and children; and they’re practical as well as beautiful. Traditional babouches are made of pure leather and dyed in brilliant colours such as yellow or red. Leather items are not scarce in the souks, often at very attractive prices for the finest negotiators. A leather bag, a belt, or even a jacket will make sensation in the office, on your return home!
Fans of cooking won’t lack a wide choice of natural spices to choose from and take home with them in the little shops of the medina. Cumin, saffron, or the local ras el hanout, a bottle of freshly pressed olive oil, or one of the mythical Argan oil – which is only produced in the regions of Marrakech, Agadir, and Essaouira – make excellent gifts. The much sought-after Argan oil has amazing properties: it’s very tasteful, and Moroccans use both for cooking and cosmetics purposes since ancient times.
For lovers of interior design, Morocco is just paradise. Tea sets, painted pottery, tajine dishes, lamps, ironwork, textiles… your only problem will be how to fit in your suitcase everything you will want to take with you!
